99. Château Rolland-Maillet, St-Émilion Grand Cru “The 2020 Rolland-Maillet has a deep purple-black color and notes of ripe, juicy black plums, fresh blackberries and chocolate-covered cherries, with touches of garrigue, cracked black pepper and graphite. The medium to full-bodied palate has bags of poise, featuring finely grained tannins and just enough freshness to lift the earth-laced black fruits to a long finish. Drink Date: 2024 - 2039.” (89-91) pts, Wine Advocate 419567 $70 100. Château Rouget, Pomerol “Lots of black olive with dark fruit and sandalwood on the nose. Full- bodied with layers of velvety and soft tannins, yet they stay vibrant and focused. Very integrated palate. Flavorful at the end.” 96 pts, James Suckling 465883 $120 101. Château Saint-Bernard, Bordeaux Ripe and accessible now, this wine has both black and red fruit that will take on an earthy, savoury quality with age. 90 pts, Barb Philip MW 374202 $28 102. Château Saint-Pierre, St-Julien “Attractive aromas of blackberries, plum skins, cloves, cardamom, dark chocolate, cedar and graphite. Some wet stones, too. Full-bodied, opulent and broad-shouldered. Structured and refined. It has a deep core of ripe black fruit covered with layers of plush and velvety tannins that linger for a long time on the palate. Really long and even. Try after 2027.” 96 pts, James Suckling 357759, 362825 $145 103. Sarget de Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien “The 2020 Sarget de Gruaud Larose is the best vintage when compared directly with 2018 and 2019. This has more freshness and tension on the nose, understated in some ways, delicate tobacco-tinged black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine depth, nicely focused with a cleaner finish than the previous years. This will do nicely. Drink over the next decade. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2033.” 89 pts, Vinous 382130 $75
