75. Manoir de Gay, Pomerol “The second wine of this terrific Pomerol château, the 2020 Manoir De Gay is a winner in 2020, and a wine I clearly underrated from barrel. It has a great, complex nose of red and black fruits, saddle leather, flowers, and Asian spices. This medium to full-bodied, up- front, delicious, and forward Pomerol is perfect for readers looking to understand the 2020 vintage, as well as this château. It can be enjoyed any time over the coming decade.” 92 pts, Jeb Dunnuck 357676 $85 76. Le Marquis de Calon Ségur, St‑Estèphe “Another strong wine in the Calon-Ségur stable this year, showing depth and clarity of flavour. No getting around the concentration in the tannins, well balanced by brambled berry fruits and the St- Estèphe feeling of confident power. After an extremely dry July, here they saw 45mm of rain in three days in August, followed by another stretch of no rain from 15 August to 21st September. Helps explain the low 33hl/ha yields. 30% new barrels. 3.7pH.” 93 pts, Decanter 457559 $80 77. Château Meyney, St-Estèphe “The 2020 Chateau Meyney is a solid step up, with more elegance and finesse, as well as structure. Giving up medium-bodied aromas and flavors of darker currants, black cherries, classy oak, tobacco leaf, and damp earth, it has terrific overall balance, building, fine-grained tannins, and a great finish. It has some accessibility today yet will benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and keep for two decades. Best After 2027.” 94 pts, Jeb Dunnuck 347702, 457518 $75 78. Château Montviel, Pomerol “The 2020 Montviel is exuberant and flashy to the core. A rush of back fruit, spice, leather, chocolate, tobacco, incense and sweet French oak races across the palate. This full-bodied Pomerol is not exactly subtle, but it sure is delicious. Drinking Window: 2023 - 2035.” 93 pts, Vinous 357679 $85
