60. Haut-Médoc Giscours, Haut-Médoc “The 2020 Haut-Médoc Giscours is a very pretty wine. It emerges from a 60-hectare holding between Giscours and Cantemerle. Bright, aromatic and medium in body, the Haut-Médoc Giscours is an absolute delight. Freshly cut flowers, mint, red berry fruit and herbs are finely cut in this nuanced, salivating red. Lively acids round out the finish. I imagine this will age exquisitely, but I would also give it a year or two in bottle to soften a bit. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2035.” 92 pts, Vinous 357817 $50 61. Les Hauts de Smith, Pessac‑Léognan “The 2020 Les Hauts de Smith, 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, is plump, juicy and quite forward. Succulent red cherry, cedar, cinnamon and dried flowers are front and center. Bright acids play off the ripe, racy fruit very nicely. Plush tannins wrap it all together in style. Drinking Window: 2026 - 2040.” 93 pts, Vinous 347243 $60 62. L’Hospitalet de Gazin, Pomerol The second wine of Chateau Gazin is predominantly Merlot grown on gravel with a subsoil of clay. It offers the class and intensity of Gazin with an earlier drinking window. 91 pts, Barbara Philip MW 371752 $80 63. Château Joanin Bécot, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux “The 2020 Joanin Bécot offers up notes of cherries, dark berries, violet and flower aromas with delicate hints of peony flowers. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, precise and fresh, with bright acidity and a delicate, crystalline and fine texture; in a word: exquisite. Drink Date: 2025 - 2030.” 93 pts, Wine Advocate 382198 $55
