Château Faugères, St-Émilion Grand Cru “Deep purple-black colored, the 2020 Faugères stampedes out of the glass with a herd of powerful black fruit notes: blackberry pie, baked black plums and ripe, juicy black cherries, plus hints of wild mushrooms, damp soil, tar and star anise with a waft of tobacco. The full-bodied palate is chock-full of black fruit preserves, framed by ripe, rounded tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and earthy. $90 42. Château Ferran, Pessac‑Léognan “A blend of 78% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Ferran is aging for 12 months in French oak barrels, 30% new. The alcohol is 14%. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it features fragrant notes of kirsch, preserved plums, boysenberries and raspberry coulis, plus hints of spice cake, licorice and garrigue with a waft of cracked black pepper.
