12. Château La Cabanne, Pomerol “The 2020 La Cabanne has a classy bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, undergrowth, pencil lead and light floral scents. The palate is medium-bodied with finely sculpted tannins, fresh and saline with an energetic and tensile, very focused finish that lingers in the mouth. I can see this ageing very well in bottle. Château de Camensac, Haut-Médoc “The 2020 Château de Camensac has an attractive nose with ample red berry fruit, brown spices, cedar and light earthy aromas. The Merlot is very expressive here (47% of the blend). The palate is medium- bodied with fine tannins and very well judged acidity. This is classic Haut-Médoc, cool and refined with a saline finish that gets the saliva flowing. One of the best wines from the estate in recent years. Highly recommended. Château Canon, St-Émilion Grand Cru “The brilliant 2020 Canon looks set to surpass both the 2019 and 2016 as this estate’s finest wine since the post-war period, though like many of the best 2020s, it will require more patience than its 2019 counterpart. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of cherries and raspberries mingled with notions of exotic spices and iris, it’s medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with vibrant acids and beautifully polished, chalky tannins. Pure and precise, it concludes with a long, mouthwatering finish. This beautifully constructed wine communicates the essence of this superb limestone terroir, and it will be worth a special effort to track down and cellar.
