Vins Rouges

158 Château Rolland-Maillet, St‑Émilion Grand Cru

“Faint floral and dried herb aromatics. Clean and clear, not the plushest or most demonstrative, this seems a little shy right now with tense but also sweet black fruit, slightly grainy tannins and tobacco on the finish. This has a soft structure and gentle persistency. I like that the wine isn’t overly dominated by wood. Feels harmonious.” 92 pts, Georgina Hindle, Decanter 319638 $60

159 Château Rouget, Pomerol “An intense nose with fragrant floral notes and dark berry fruit. Grippy and intense, the powdery, softly drying tannins come in pretty quickly and cover up some of the more fun, joyful fruit elements. Quite a serious, massy wine that leans into the vintage, also with 15% alcohol, ending with bitter black chocolate, espresso, tobacco and cinnamon. Needs some more time to relax and soften.” 94 pts, Georgina Hindle, Decanter 364284 $120 160 Château Saint-Pierre, St‑Julien “Ripe and vivid, with plum, cassis and boysenberry notes spilling out. There’s just enough singed apple wood and cast iron to keep this focused. Violet and

anise accents chime in the background. A decidedly not- shy St.-Julien that captures this vintage profile nicely. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2027 through 2040. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.” 95 pts, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator 364271 $155
