Vins Rouges
110 Château Lafleur-Gazin, Pomerol “A richly scented nose, heady aromatics of ripe fruit and exotic spices. Soft and caressing on the palate, this has a nice juiciness and sense of lift despite the clear concentration of ripe, dark fruits. It’s powerful but the acidity helps it to not become oppressive. A touch of alcohol comes in towards the finish giving some heat and toasted spice which needs to settle. A bit restricted and compact right now but nice promise.” 93 pts, Georgina Hindle, Decanter 328487 $90 111 Château Lafon-Rochet, St‑Estèphe
“Silky smooth with excellent freshness, firm fleshy tannins and a minty, liquorice-tinged freshness throughout. Tannins are fine and supportive and give this a broad mouthfeel while keeping direction and forward motion. Sophisticated with plenty of layers of flavour while keeping a classic touch despite the tough vintage conditions. Still a little shy, give this a few years, but great potential for future enjoyment. Strength and succulence. Brilliant.” 95 pts, Georgina Hindle, Decanter 272760 $120 Château Lagrange, Pomerol “Deep dark ruby garnet colour with opaque core and purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Ripe plums, blackberry confit, orange zest in the background, inviting bouquet. Juicy and fresh, red cherries, mineral, discreet fruitiness on the finish, good length, secure ageing potential.” 94 pts, Peter Moser, Falstaff 328482 $80
