Vins Rouges
86 Château Frank Phélan, St‑Estèphe
“Beautiful colour in the glass, so vivid and vibrant. Sleek and streamlined, a lovely cool vein of freshness and soft flinty touches with grippy tannins that give texture to the frame. On the reserved side, it’s poised and calm, not shouting but delicately delivering layers of flavour, concentrated black fruits, minerality and ever so soft spicing. Nice definition, weight and intensity, this is well crafted with licks of liquorice, clove and dark chocolate. A lovely ease to this despite being clearly powerful and full of refined intensity.” 92 pts, Georgina Hindle, Decanter 319671 $65 “The 2022 La Gaffelière is fantastic, but it has also closed down considerably post-bottling. Supremely elegant and perfumed, the 2022 is an absolutely stunning wine. Blood orange, pomegranate, spice, white pepper, dried herbs and all sorts of floral overtones soar from the glass. The Franc is so impressive here. I don’t expect this magical Saint- Émilion to be ready any time soon. Today, it is a wine of dazzling complexity and purity for the cellar.” 99 pts, Antonio Galloni, Vinous 332949 6 bottle limit $180 “An evocative nose full of fragrant blue and purple fruits with lots of floral aromatics - some cherry, cola, tobacco, aniseed and violets. Smooth and so succulent, an excellent weight in the mouth with the most uplifting acidity, juicy fruit and signature terroir markers of graphite, stones, pencil lead and oyster shell minerality. I love this. So finessed yet still packing plenty of flavour and depth. Extremely refined. A wine that has relaxed since Primeurs , becoming soft and just so appealing to drink. Really excellent.” 94 pts, Georgina Hindle, Decanter 372783 6 bottle limit $55
