L’Esprit de Chevalier, Pessac‑Léognan
“The 2022 L’Esprit de Chevalier unfurls from the glass with aromas of cassis, mulberries, spices and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, textured and layered, it’s elegant and seamless with good depth at the core and youthful, delicate tannins. Concluding with a long, penetrating and ethereal finish, this blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot is a real success.” 92 pts, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate 332911 $65 vintage’s glamour and richness. The nose is deep and heady, filled with violets, dark chocolate, blackcurrants, and espresso. The palate is glossy and rich, with a juicy, shiny black fruit core, balanced by fine, slightly bloody tannins. There’s an undercurrent of freshness, with a minty lift and a touch of creaminess that enhances the plush texture. Toasted wood notes still need time to integrate, but this is smooth, seductive, and beautifully structured. A wine of depth, polish, and lasting finesse. Ageing 45% new oak, 10% foudre, 15% amphora. 3.88pH.” 96 pts, Georgina Hindle, Decanter 363829 $650 Château l’Évangile, Pomerol “A seductive and sculpted wine, leaning into the Château Faugères, St‑Émilion Grand Cru “An engaging red, with expressive notes of raspberry and red currant preserves carrying a sparkle of anise and rose hip that adds a lingering freshness to the sleek finish. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2036.” 92 pts, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator 363823 $95
