Vins Rouges
63 La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou, St‑Julien
“Richly concentrated, this has beautifully presented black fruits with a lovely chewy frame. Feels full and wide in the mouth with tannins that cover the mouth while a layer of cedar and tobacco spice flows underneath. Feels quite serious, it’s structured and has lots of flesh and bones with brooding fruit and lots of oak notes but it feels well constructed and very purposeful. I love the energy and the persistence of flavour and while it’s charged, all the elements really work together. Will be great to approach in five or so years. Tannins are finessed and this also carries acidity which keeps this lifted rather than becoming too heavy.” 94 pts, Georgina Hindle, Decanter 273172 $120
64 La Dame de Montrose, St‑Estèphe “Floral and dark chocolate scents with black berries. Beautifully textured, with grippy tannins, pure fruit and high acidity. Plush, just-chewy blackcurrants and cherries, dark chocolate, liquorice and salty stones. Lifted, minty menthol finish. Balanced, harmonious and confident, nothing overdone. A clear upgrade from en primeur and a standout second wine.” 94 pts, Georgina Hindle, Decanter 273196 $100 65 Château de la Dauphine, Fronsac “Vividly floral with blackcurrant scents and a touch of ink adding to the allure of the nose. Silky smooth with an immediate vibrancy of acidity and bright red berry fruit on the palate. Juicy but also poised, this isn’t brooding or too rich, with finely integrated tannins and a long finish. Sculpted and concentrated while staying sleek and refined. Still too young, not as approachable as some others, but this will reward patience. A great wine.” 93 pts, Georgina Hindle, Decanter 348795 $55
