Vins Rouges

46 Château la Chapelle aux Moines, St‑Émilion Grand Cru “Dating back to the 19th century, this estate to the east of Saint-Emilion has produced a generous wine. Blending Merlot, the two Cabernets and a pinch of Malbec, the wine is ripe with a licorice aroma and a fine structure. It is a big wine from a tiny property that should age well. Drink from 2028.” 92 pts, Wine Enthusiast 319660 $45

Château Chasse-Spleen, Moulis-en-Médoc

“Juicy and fleshy, this has a soft bouncy core of ripe blackcurrant fruit with menthol, spiced herb and clove accents. Tannins are grippy in just the right places and this has a wide and open mouthfeel. It’s on the plush side in terms of texture but maintains a cool and fresh core. Enjoyable. 2% Cabernet Franc completes the blend.” 93 pts, Georgina Hindle, Decanter 332888 $85

48 Château Cheval Blanc, St‑Émilion Grand Cru

“Loganberry, boysenberry and blackberry compote notes give the core an almost outsized feel, but there’s restraint and focus, as touches of warm loam, licorice root and smoldering tobacco keep this well-grounded. There’s cut and drive too, even though this is dense and slow-moving, with alder smoke, Turkish coffee and bittersweet cocoa checking in. Then a lilting black tea and violet backdrop emerges at the very end, adding grace and sensuality. A marvelous expression of a distinctive vintage. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2028 through 2050.” 99 pts, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator 332770 1 bottle limit $1,800
