165. Château Troplong Mondot, St-Émilion Grand Cru (L)
“Delicate and beguiling fragrance with a bright and shiny, sleek expression on the palate. Direct and focused with tangy red berry fruit, acidity on the high side giving an immediate buzz, supportive tannins that give density and structure but retain grace and elegance. A full and serious wine while still being streamlined and on the leaner flavour spectrum. Lots of texture and interest.” Drink 2026 - 2048 96 pts, Decanter 324643 6 bottle limit $250 166. Château Trotanoy, Pomerol (L) “Fresh aromas of blackberries are an enticing entry into a wine with ripe tannins. Clay with iron in the soil gives an important structure and layers of black currant fruits along with tannins. This is a big wine worth aging. Drink from 2028.” 96 pts, Wine Enthusiast 435738 6 bottle limit $500 167. Château Trotte Vieille, St-Émilion Grand Cru (L) “The first vintage made in the estate’s new winery, the 2021 Trotte Vieille has turned out beautifully, offering up aromas of sweet berries and cherries mingled with burning embers, rose petals and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and polished, it’s impressively deep and serious. It’s a blend of 54% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon.” Drink 2024 - 2042 92-94 pts, Wine Advocate 324638 6 bottle limit $180 168. Château La Vieille Cure, Fronsac “Offering up aromas of cherries and berries framed by a generous application of creamy new oak, the 2021 La Vieille Cure is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and ample, with lively acids and a vanillin-inflected finish. It’s a creditable effort from this unabashedly modern-styled Fronsac estate.” Drink 2025 - 2039 88-90 pts, Wine Advocate 411862 $55
