127. Château Montrose, St‑Estèphe (L) “The remarkable 2021 Montrose gets my nomination for the title of “wine of the vintage” in the Médoc. Wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of cassis and dark berries mingled with subtle hints of mint, orange, pencil shavings and spices, it’s medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a layered and multidimensional core of fruit underpinned by beautifully ripe, refined tannins. Concluding with a long, resonant finish, it entirely transcends the limitations of the year. This young classic, reminiscent of the estate’s 1996 but far better, is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.” Drink 2031 - 2065 97 pts, Wine Advocate 435878, 450158 6 bottle limit $400 128. Château Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (L) “Concentrated and characterful, layered and super-finely presented. Round and full, juicy and textured, more powdery than tense and grippy with almost blackcurrant skin texture, while juicy red and black cherry juice goes through the centre, added to by dried mint, wet stones, clove and liquorice. Serious, with power but poise, all the elements on show – perhaps not quite settled, but individually showing the complexity of this great wine in the making.” Drink 2031 - 2061 96 pts, Decanter 450588 6 bottle limit $1,450 129. Château Nénin, Pomerol “The 2021 Nenin is a decided overperformer, bursting from the glass with notes of dark berries, plums and cherries, complemented by exotic top notes of rose petals, violets, Indian spices and orange zest. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and velvety, it’s lively and polished, with a layered core of fruit and a long, perfumed finish.” Drink 2025 - 2041 93 pts, Wine Advocate 434132 $150
